PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION: AO ORCHESTRAL RETURN 25/02/2024: WITH THANKS

The Australasian Orchestra’s full orchestral return concert on Sunday 25th February 2024 began a new era for AO in glorious fashion, after almost 4 wilderness years started by the covid-19 pandemic.

Beginning with Percy Grainger‘s Molly on the Shore , fittingly following a tribute to AO’s late long-time serving President Tony Walker, ANAM soloist Louise Turnbull superbly performed Max Bruch‘s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor. The 2nd half contain the orchestra’s performance of the most famous version of Modest Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition, being Maurice Ravel’s phenomenal orchestration of it.

The AO Inc. committee and conductor Robert Dora would like to warmly thank all the performers, including soloist Louise Turnbull, AO supports and the concert’s audience for making this wonderful return possible. Here’s to many more AO performances!

CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN FOR AO’S ORCHESTRAL RELAUNCH IS OPen until 23/03/2024

Thank you to everyone who has so far generously donated to the AO’s current crowdfunding campaign via Pozible. Donations are support the orchestra’s return, including hopefully soon seeing it resume its previous history of performing 2 orchestral concerts a year. As a small organisation who has previously survived almost entirely on ticket sales, we gratefully for any donation. We also thank everyone for other important support, such as spreading word about AO’s concerts, signing up to its emailing list, and most importantly by attending its concerts.

2023 Chamber Concert

OUT OF THE SHADOWS: AO CHAMBER CONCERT 2023 – 05/11/2023

We would like to thank all of the wonderful performers of the 2023 Chamber concert!! With a short and focussed rehearsal period, the repertoire Paul Stanhope‘s Songs for the ShadowlandLennox Berkeley‘s Sextet op. 47 and W. A. Mozart‘s Quintet in E♭ major K. 452 is no mean feat, and the hard work and skill put into their performances was considerable.

We thank all who attended in the audience. It was able to raise a little for the orchestra in advance of its 2024 season. To all involved (be it as performs, audience, committee members, or other AO supporters) we thank you, and hope you enjoyed the concert.

Congratulations to all involved instrumentalists, and to soprano Jennifer Molloy, for this concert’s performances!

(Select photos from the concert are on the orchestra’s official Facebook and Instagram pages).
