FEBRUARY 2024 CONCERT
PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION: AO ORCHESTRAL RETURN – 25/02/2024: WITH THANKS
The Australasian Orchestra’s full orchestral return concert on Sunday 25th February 2024 began a new era for AO in glorious fashion, after almost 4 wilderness years started by the covid-19 pandemic.
Beginning with Percy Grainger‘s Molly on the Shore, fittingly following a tribute to AO’s late long-time serving President Tony Walker, ANAM soloist Louise Turnbull superbly performed Max Bruch‘s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor. The 2nd half contain the orchestra’s performance of the most famous version of Modest Mussorgsky‘s Pictures at an Exhibition, being Maurice Ravel‘s phenomenal orchestration of it.
The AO Inc. committee and conductor Robert Dora would like to warmly thank all the performers, including soloist Louise Turnbull, AO supports and the concert’s audience for making this wonderful return possible. Here’s to many more AO performances!
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN FOR AO’S ORCHESTRAL RELAUNCH CONCERT (which ran February – March).
JULY 2024 CONCERT
CASCADING NEW WORLDS – 20/07/2024:
The Australasian Orchestra’s (AO’s) grand mid-year concert featured Antonín Dvořák‘s beloved Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”), which the orchestra performed with aplomb and incredible heart. The short and fun Les Toréadors from Georges Bizet‘s Carmen opened the concert, followed by Ghost composed by artist Aksuna (Natasha Lin), which was then followed by Max Bruch‘s wonderful Double Concerto for Clarinet, Viola, and Orchestra in E minor.
The soloists for the concerto were AO section leaders (& seasoned professionals) Aaron Klein (clarinet) and Rebecca Parfitt (viola), both of whom performed simply magnificently, and whose wonderful interpretation of the concerto (including a cracking pace for the 3rd movement) was loved and admired by both the orchestra and audience members alike.
AO wishes to thank everyone who contributed to and performed in this concert, as it was a fabulous way to close the 2024 season. This is already one of the most memorable AO performances.
