BARTÓK – Concerto for Orchestra
Sunday 1st March 2020, 2pm
The Australasian Orchestra commenced 2020 (AO’s 7th year) with the brilliant & much loved Concerto for Orchestra by Béla Bartók, the powerful & fun Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich, music from Aleksandr Glazunov‘s charming Chopiniana Suite & the picturesque Poucette by the wonderful Melbourne composer Hugh Crosthwaite. With Bartók‘s notoriously difficult Concerto for Orchestra being vivaciously and well performed, Hugh Crosthwaite and his piece Poucette were also warmly received. Of all the intense (‘serious’) Classical composers and their compositions of the 20th century, it was AO’s performance of Shostakovich‘s bright and brilliant Festive Overture that was rapturously received by the audience and ‘nailed’ in performance by the instrumentalists.
Come enjoy this wonderful program, which will immediately be followed by complimentary refreshments
