To launch its 2020 season, on March 1st the AO presented Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, along with great other compositions by Shostakovich (Festive Overture), Glazunov (Chopiniana) and Hugh Crosthwaite (Poucette). This followed AO’s huge year in 2019, which comprised of two major and highly successful concerts in February and July (respectively) in the forms of utterly incredible Shostakovich Symphony No. 11 and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky‘s beloved Symphony No. 5
Due to the world-wide COVID-19 Crisis the AO’s 2nd concert of 2020, which was scheduled to be in July featuring Brahms’ 1st Symphony, has been cancelled. Though everything will remain uncertain for some time to come because of this crisis (and as such decisions regarding future performances won’t be able to occur until the crisis in Australia is pretty much resolved), we hope AO will return in 2021 for more wonderful music making.
