‘Unique Musical Experiences’:
Affectionately known as the ‘AO’, the Australasian Orchestra Inc. is a truly dynamic symphony orchestra which is dedicated to performing a broad range of symphonic repertoire including a unique mix of established/beloved symphonic works, contemporary compositions from Western, Eastern and other musical traditions as well as challenging brand new works.
Over recent years it has given memorable concert performances with top soloists, including established international and local soloists as well as rising virtuoso soloists.
The orchestra is comprised of musicians from a range of musical backgrounds and includes both highly experienced as well as talented emerging instrumentalists. A key feature of many of its concerts is to provide symphonic opportunities for both new and experienced composers and soloists to perform with this talented symphony orchestra.
The AO performs two main symphony concerts a year, in mid- February and late July, with each concert being preceded by a short rehearsal period of 3 to 4 weeks. From time to time members of the orchestra form a Salon or Chamber Orchestra to perform a selected program by invitation for a special concert or event.
A main purpose of the orchestra is to further the love, appreciation and understanding of fine music by and amongst musicians and audiences who live and work in the Australasian region.
